Types of Watches

As you may have noticed there are hundreds of watch brands, thousands of designs and plenty of styles to choose from. To make your life easier we have compiled a comprehensive guide which details the different types of watches available.

Chronograph Watch

There are two types of chronographs, they are Digital and Analog-Digital. Digital chronographs use a digital display for timekeeping and stopwatch functions with either separate displays or by switching modes on a single display.
Analog-digital chronographs have a permanent center seconds and a separate digital display that normally operate independently of the analog section of the watch. A fallback will reset it to zero and then continue to run when the reset button is used while the stopwatch is running.

Double Chronograph Watch

A double chronograph watch features two seperate stopwatch mechanisms which are used to estimate two different events. Watches with a double chronograph have two seconds hands – one of which is superimposed over the other. If one hand is moving, the other can be stopped, reset or started. The double chronograph can also be confused with the flyback chronograph.

Chronometer Watch

Chronometer watches are those which have been tested and certified to meet correct precision standards. For example, only watches certified by the COSC may use the word ‘chronometer’ on them.
Some chronometer watches contain bearings made from diamonds (and other precious stones) to decrease friction on mechanical parts. This ultimately increases the value of the watch by a significant amount.
